defamation law

Our team have previously worked in specialist media law firms and have acted on a series of high profile and legally significant cases, including Economou v De Freitas, a key case regarding the public interest defence found at s4 of the Defamation Act 2013.

We have worked with a number of high profile figures, and have particular experience advising politicians in relation to defamatory material, with an excellent track record in obtaining public apologies and damages for them.

We are also acutely aware of the sometimes eye watering costs involved in this area of law, and we do all we can to find practical and cost effective solutions. We fully appreciate that this area of law should open and accessible to as many people who need it as possible, and shouldn’t just be something for film stars and premier league footballers.

JAMES ROOCHOVE

What our clients say:
“I cannot be anything but effusive as to my high regard for Mr Roochove. His attention to detail was first class, his ability to create alternative viewpoints and interpretations of, what was, in my case, abstract and little tested areas of law, was outstanding. Additionally he made himself available to me at any time of day, virtually 24/7.”
James is a solicitor and primarily advises political parties, members of parliament, councillors, and activists on a variety of electoral law and reputation management issues. His work include allegations of electoral fraud, election petitions and advising on false and defamatory statements made against political candidates.
James also has a wider litigation experience which includes advising on defamation proceedings and commercial disputes. He also works as a Tutor at the University of Law teaching a range subjects.
